Siltation of Pristine Streams

Siltation of Pristine Streams

Conservationists are concerned that CALM/Forest Products Division appears to show no interest in abiding by any of the guidelines set by themselves or the Waters and Rivers Commission.

The photographs on this page are not isolated examples of small cases that have been overlooked, this is common practice of the treatment of streams and riparian zones. No science is used in the construction of these roads or culverts.

The sediment from these roading operations is more than certainly killing the invertebrate life in these pristine waterways and this is the beginning of the food chain for the rest of the native animals living in and around the forest. There needs to be be a thorough investigation into CALM/Forest Products Division or an immediate cessation of their roading and logging operations if there is to be any future for our last pristine waterways in the south west of Western Australia.
This gross negligence of obligation requires immediate action as damage is long term or irreparable. Further evidence of this large scale land degradation can be provided en masse. If further information is required, contact the Northcliffe Environment Centre on (08) 9776 6015.
