Dalgarup State Forest

Althought the Bridgetown community is delighted that the Labor government intends to protect many of the forests in the shire, they are very concerned that Dalgarup is not one of those forests. Bridgetown Greenbushes Friends of the Forest have been fighting to save Dalgarup for many years and it now appears that the fight must continue.

This amazing blackbutt tree is in an area of Dalgarup forest (west of Bridgetown) due to be logged in 2002. At chest height the tree is 8.6 metres in circumference and at its base is 12 metres.
     
 
Another huge blackbutt just 125 metres from the one above. This tree is 6.7 metres in circumference at chest height and 9.6 metres at its base.
     
Three special jarrah trees in Dalgarup forest. If the logging in 2002 doesn't destroy these trees, the following CALM burn off probably will.
     
 
Unfortunately most of the big jarrahs in Dalgarup have already been taken. In 2002 loggers will be back to take what's left and in particular the old marri trees that they now want for chips.
