This area will then be drilled and blasted prior to mining. | Same as previous photo, except note the island of jarrah bottom right of photo. Small clumps of jarrah are sometimes left in the middle of mining areas as a "conservation" exercise. These areas are devoid of wildlife (remember, blasting and mining totally surround this island). | |
| After mining, the little remaining topsoil is ripped into straight and curved lines using a bulldozer with tines attached. Alcoa then replants amongst these ridges. It is estimated that these ridges will last for generations. | ![]() |

In this photo it can be seen that much of the regeneration after mining has not taken, resulting in soil erosion. This area is close to the North Dandalup Dam - a major Perth water supply. | |
